Bongbong (officially Barangay Bongbong) is one of the 44 barangays constituting the municipality of Ubay, in the province of Bohol, Philippines.

The barangay's total land area is approximately 161.2939 [2] hectares, with a population of 779[3] as of 2007. In the last 2010 National election, it has 465[4] registered voters.

Barangay Bongbong celebrates its annual fiesta every December 8 in honor of their patron saint.

Location

Located on the central part of the municipality, Bongbong is bounded by barangay Lomangog to the north. To the south, it is bounded by barangay San Pascual, to the east by barangay Biabas and to the west by both barangay Lomangog and San Pascual. Bongbong has approximate distance of 10[5] km from the town center, Poblacion.

History

Barangay Bongbong was named after the Bagakay used as walls in houses. In the Visayan language, Bongbong means wall. Bongbong became a separate barangay from San Pascual on December 15, 1968. However, residents celebrate its Barangay foundation day every May 15, the reason being that many people feel comfortable and also less in dire straits in May than in December.

Government

There are seven puroks or units in the barangay manned by the elected kagawads including the Punong Barangay or Barangay chairman. In December, 1999, these were named after flowers, namely:
